Tax Exemption Details
RE: NYS Forestry Exemption for Qualified Parcels
Dear Landowner,
In addition to our complete line of forestry and rural property improvement services, landowners with 50 acres or more of forestland are eligible to receive a forestry exemption as provided by section 480-A of the NYS Real Property Tax Law. This exemption is applied to the land portion of your assessment, and can amount to a substantial annual savings. The program is designed to help large landowners simultaneously practice long term forest management and receive a reduced assessment on the managed acres in the process.
While the program does come with a commitment and some initial expenses to enroll, typically the first year savings far exceed any expenses of initial enrollment. Since every ownership situation is unique, how the program may or may not be for you can only be determined by an on site visit and review of your woodlands, assessment figures, and some insight as to your long term plans for the property.
